Bios
Chris and Joe are
excited about being able to share their music with you. Be
prepared for high-energy musical performances, innovative
instruction, and plenty of good-natured humor
Chris is
considered the local expert on banjo
jokes....and Joe is....um.... a banjo player.
Joe Steiner, from
Findlay, Ohio, is a well-respected and innovative instructor
on several instruments, and has many recordings to his
credit with various bluegrass and old-time groups. Joe is
nationally recognized for his banjo knowledge and skills,
both in bluegrass and clawhammer style, but is just as
comfortable with a guitar, harmonica, mandolin, bass, or
mountain dulcimer.
Joe has become a
sought-after instructor and jam leader, and is involved with
workshops at many festivals. Joe also coordinates many
in-school music programs, workshops, clubs, and performances
for children and adolescents in conjunction with
Nashvilles Bluegrass in the Schools program. Joe is
also the host and programmer of Blue Ridge Breakdown, an
old-time/bluegrass program on WLFC, University of Findlay,
radio.
Chris Cooperrider is
one-half (the better half, she says!) of the Chris and Joe -
Old Time Duo. Chris instrument of choice is the
hammered dulcimer, but she can also be found playing upright
bass for the Old Peculiar String Band. She says that in her
next lifetime she is going to play something
much more portable
. like a kazoo.
In addition to private
lessons, workshops, and jams, Chris conducts workshops and
performs at several festivals and venues yearly. Along with
assisting with in-school music clubs and programs, she
conducts workshops for school teachers for Bluegrass in the
Schools in conjunction with the International Bluegrass
Music Association in Nashville. This program promotes old
time and bluegrass music as part of a standardized school
curriculum.
Chriss goal in
life is to learn every stupid banjo joke that
exists so that she can keep Joe in line
and she has a
pretty good start.
